It’s the third week of February, andd influenza is widespread in Connecticut.
It’s been a bad season, with a lot of H1N1influenza _ the swine flue affecting teenagers and young adults. In a report released Thursday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that that based on a national sampling of 122 U.S cities, 61% of all flu-related hospitalizations involved adults between the ages of 18 and 64.
In the past several years, the CDC said, this rate has been much lower — between 35% to 43%
For that reason, the CDC is urging anyone over six months old, including pregnant women, get a flu vaccine.
Influenza can make anyone very sick, very fast and it can kill,” said CDC director Dr. Tom Frieden.
