Danbury’s Wooster School girls’ basketball team played in the semifinal match of the HVAL tournament Thursday evening and made the most of it with a decisive 57-31 win over conference rival Darrow.
Wooster senior guard Kate MacNutt surpassed the 1,000-point mark in her career, becoming only the second female basketball player in Wooster’s history to score 1,000 points.
Mckenzie Corby Howarth, a 1998 graduate who also hit that mark, was at the game.
After Kate scored her 1,000th point, the game was stopped for a brief moment of recognition and celebration.
Prior to tip-off, Coach David MacNutt recognized the three members of the Class of 2014, Lucy Kiely, Kate MacNutt, and Allie Pfeffer.
“Our three seniors have made valuable contributions over the years,” MacNutt said. “They have been leaders by example, and they have been dedicated, determined, and loyal players, who have consistently displayed their passion for this team. It has been rewarding for me to have witnessed their development as players, but even more rewarding to have witnessed their development as individuals. It is with admiration, gratitude, and sadness that we say goodbye to these three terrific ambassadors for this program and this school.“
