An early morning fire Tuesday has displaced the homeowner of 25 Dartmouth Road in New Milford.

Water Witch Hose Co. No. 2 responded to the 911 call at 7:41 a.m. On arrival, they found an engaged house fire that had started in the basement extension to the first floor, said Fire Chief Jim Ferlow.

“We had a good stop,” Ferlow said. “We immediately called for mutual aid from Brookfield and Northville. We got there fast and did our job.”

The fire was under complete control at approximately 9:47 a.m., Ferlow said.

New Milford Fire Marshal Karen Facey said there was significant damage to the home. The fire originated from an electrical issue with the hot water heater, Facey said.

“The fire got caught between the basement area and the main living area,” Facey said. “Firefighters had to vent the roof. There’s a lot of water damage and charring.”

The name of the woman living in the house was not released.
