State Rep. John Shaban, R-Redding has named Bob Zappi, chairman of the Westport Republican Town Committee to be his campaign manager for his run for the 4th District U.S, Congressional seat.
Shaban credited Zappi for leading a revival of the Westport Republican Party in recent years.
“As Chairman of the Westport RTC, Bob led its resurgence from minority party to a relevant and cohesive political organization with significant wins in the past two municipal election cycles in a town where voters are more characteristic of a city and lean 2:1 for Democrats,” Shaban said in a press release. “These wins were based on understanding demographics, marketing practices and message development that resonated with voters in a cost efficient way.”
Shaban is s one of three Republicans running for the GOP nomination, along with political newcomer Carl Higbie, of Greenwich, and former state Sen. Dan Debicella, of Shelton.
The winner of that race is expected to face incumbent Democrat U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-4th District in November’s general election.
