Firefighters with the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department battled a blaze that broke out earlier tonight inside a home on Painters Hill Road.

Chief Kyle Szymanski said firefighters had the fire under control less than a half hour before arriving on the scene.

Mutual aid from several towns including Bridgewater, Woodbury and Southbury was requested for additional manpower as well as for additional tanker trucks that were needed due to the rural location of the home and the lack of a nearby water source.

Szymanski said the fire broke out in the rear of the home but was under control before it could spread to other areas of the house.

It was unclear if the homeowners, who had recently purchased the property, were home at the time of the incident.

Szymanski said they were moving into the house, which was recently renovated, earlier in the day Friday.

No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.
