When F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote”The Great Gatsby” in the 1920s, little did he realize that a monumental resurgence of his work would occur almost 100 years later with a series of community reading events. (And the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, right?!)
The excitement continues as the play adaptation, sanctioned by the Fitzgerald estate and written by Simon Levy, opens at Pawling High School, at 30 Wagner Road in Pawling, N.Y., next month. The play will be performed on April 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. and April 6 at 2 pm.
Brewster Theater Company president Stacy Dumont directs this unique high school production which incorporates the jazz age and modern day music, complementing the vibrant, yet tragic, plot. Piano player Melissa Jones, and bassist Kim Papa, both of Brewster, N.Y., play under the musical direction of Pawling’s Pamela DeHuff.
Tickets are $12 for adults, and $10 for students and seniors. Discounted tickets are available in advance at Pawling High School and at The Book Cove in Pawling, which is offering a special novel/ticket combination.
“The Great Gatsby” is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
