State police on Monday announced Operation CA.R.E., a plan aimed at reducing motor vehicle crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday with a focus on drunk-driving enforcement.
The Combined Accident Reduction Effort will call on additional troopers throughout the holiday weekend in order to target drunk, aggressive or otherwise unsafe driving.
Roving DUI patrols and sobriety checkpoints will be deployed across the state throughout the weekend.
Troopers will also use “non-traditional patrol cars” during the weekend to watch traffic and issue tickets.
“Thanksgiving Eve and Day are, without a doubt, the busiest traffic days of the year. Motorists need to remember: Don’t follow too close, slow down, stay off your cell phone and if you drink, then don’t drive,” the release read.
Last year the holiday weekend resulted in three traffic-related deaths in the state among the 410 crashes state police investigated. Another 59 of those crashes resulted in injuries, according to the release.
