UPDATE

DANBURY -Police are looking for three men in a green Jeep after one of them shot a young man in the area of Rose Street and Kennedy Avenue about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The victim, who appeared to be in his early 20s, was taken to Danbury Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right arm.

Two witnesses, one of whom was with the victim when the shooting occurred, were being interviewed  by police. The second was a Rose Street resident who said the incident occurred in from of her home. Neither person wanted to be identified.

The first witness, a  friend who was with the victim, said the shooting took place after a fight between the victim and one of the assailants at the basketball court on Beaver Street a short time earlier.

One of the assailants brandished a length of pipe and came after the victim, telling him, “I’ve got something for you,” the friend said. The witness said he took the pipe away from the attacker, and threw it over the fence.

“I said “if you’re  going to fight, it’s going to be fair- no weapons,’” the friend said.

After the scuffle ended, the victim and the friend walked to Rose Street, where they briefly visited the friend’s aunt. When they left the aunt’s apartment, the three assailants confronted them, and one of the three pointed a  gun at the victim and pulled the trigger.

“It jammed,” the friend said, but the gunman cleared the weapon and fired again, this time wounding the victim. The victim and his friend then walked to the Beaver Street housing complex, where the victim’s uncle’s lives. The wounded man was treated by emergency medical personnel  and taken to Danbury Hospital.

The second witness confirmed the friend’s version of events, adding that the parties had been yelling at each other before the shot was fired.

“I heard them arguing, but I couldn’t say what they were arguing about,” she said.

The uncle, who also didn’t want to give his name, said the victim lived with him, but declined further comment.
