Woman choked in home invasion

New Milford Police have arrested a 28-year-old Danbury man who allegedly entered a residence in town through a window and assaulted a 55-year-old woman there.

Police were called to West Street in the early hours of Tuesday in response to a 911 call that a man had entered a residence through a window. The man was later identified as Jose Rodriguez, of Osborne Street, Danbury.

Rodriguez had a past relationship with an individual who live at the home but who was not home at the time of the incident, police said. He was confronted by another resident, a 55-year-old woman, and an altercation took place, according to police.

The woman was choked and assaulted by Rodriguez. A neighbor came to the aid of the woman and fought off Rodriguez, following him out of the home, police said.

Rodriguez was apprehended on West Street. At the time of the incident, there was a minor child present in the who who was not involved or injured, police said.

The woman had minor injuries and was transported to New Milford Hospital where she was treated and released.

Rodriguez received minor injuries when the neighbor intervened and was also transported to New Milford Hospital. He was treated and released into police custody.

Rodriguez is being held on $100,000 bond with a court date Wednesday. He is charged with second-degree criminal trespass, third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation and risk of injury to a minor.
