Newtown will officially have a new schools superintendent on Monday: Dr. Joseph Erardi Jr. who on Friday finished his seven-year tenure as a superintendent in Southington.

The more than three-decade educator comes to the district with the highest of professional accolades, and leaders, parents and community residents in Newtown have already offered him a warm reception. He will be taking the reins from Interim Schools Superintendent John Reed who was recruited to guide the district in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy. Reed, too, has also major kudos for his dedicated leadership and commitment to the district through this difficult period in Newtown’s history. Prior to his retirement in 2002, Reed served Newtown for 20 years as superintendent.

If you want to meet with Erardi, he will be available each weekday morning from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. to meet with any parent, staff or community member who wishes to have a word. These hour-long sessions are available without appointment as part of Erardi’s commitment on ongoing dialogue and communication with all.

We welcome Dr. Erardi to Newtown.

A full profile on Erardi will be forthcoming in The News-Times print edition.
