PATTERSON — State police from the Brewster barracks are investigating the discovery of apparent human remains in a wooded area on Saturday.
The remains, which authorities said were “in an advanced state of decomposition,” were discovered about 500 feet east of Maple Avenue about 9:15 a.m.
Deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office handled the initial investigation, and subsequently turned the case over to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at the Brewster barracks.
A search using a police K-9 yielded additional remains and evidence, police said.
Identification of the body is pending an autopsy and DNA testing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-279-8656.
