Bethel teen’s photo to get D.C. display

Danielle Nielsen, a sophomore at Bethel High School, won second place for her photograph, “Poppin’ Mornin’ Smile”, for the Fifth Congressional District Art Competition.

U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty, D,5th district, announced the winning artwork for this year’s  competition Monday.

Esty, along with a panel of judges from the Mattatuck Museum and from the Post University Art Department, selected the three winning entries.

Nelsen is here with her photograph, which will hang in Rep. Esty’s office in Washington, D.C., for the coming year.

 Olivia Bosson, a senior at Nonnewaug High School from Woodbury, won first place for her painting, “Doll in Contrast.” Her painting will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the coming year alongside other winning pieces from students from all 50 states and the U.S. territories.

         Katharine Wu, a sophomore at Cheshire High School, won third place for her painting, “A Graceful Oblivion.” Her painting will hang in Rep. Esty’s office in New Britain for the coming year.

The Congressional Art Competition was founded in 1982 to showcase the artistic talents of high school students across the country.
