U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut Deirdre Daly has recognized the Greenwich Police Department for its hand in the arrest of a Burlington businessman convicted of embezzling more than $300,000 from a New Milford liquor store. Peter Turner, 58, was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment and three years of supervised release Monday in Hartford District Court.The Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force, which is comprised of members of the Greenwich Police Department as well as the Secret Service, the U.S. Department of State, and numerous other federal, state and municipal authorities, lead the investigation.
According to court reports, Turner was a member of several LLC’s working with liquor stores in New Milford and Stratford. In his capacity a managing partner of Two Buck Ring, LLC, Turner oversaw the daily management of The Bridge Fine Wine Spirits & Beer in New Milford, allowing him to write numerous checks to himself through the store’s business accounts between November 2010 and February 2012. Hiding his tracks bypassing off falsified ledgers to investors, Turner embezzled a total of $322,500.
In November 2013, Turner pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud.
