Comet ISON ….Alive!!! Maybe….

Yesterday, I email my niece the tragic news that Comet ISON was a goner, vaporized by the sun as it got to close.

This morning, however, there’s new, encouraging news. Maybe a chunk survived after all, maybe there will be a wonderful show for us naked-eye skywatchers.

What moved me the most about this is that the most-learned astronomers themselves have been  flabbergasted by what’s happened with ISON. It’s an unprecedented opportunity to see something no one has ever seen befoire

Here’s what Karl Battams of NASA has to say:
“We have a whole new set of unknowns, and this ridiculous, crazy, dynamic and unpredictable object continues to amaze, astound and confuse us to no end. ”

It is, Battams said “the most extraordinary comet” he has ever seen. And we are living through it.

Herea NASa site with great information and as astounding video: http://www.nasa.gov/ison/

We still have a month to go. But this is, I think, my favorite story of the year.
