Gettysburg College junior pitcher Eric Hungerford, a former Shepaug High standout, was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.
Hungerford pitched a complete-game three-hitter in a 2-1 triumph over Muhlenberg College last Saturday which sent the Bullets into the Centennial Conference championship game for the first time in program. Hungerford retired the final 12 batters he faced – the ball left the infield only once in that span – and struck out five while walking none.
With the win, Hungerford improved to 7-0 with a 1.51 ERA, 52 strikeouts, and just 14 walks over 71 2/3 innings. He is second in the conference in wins, third in ERA, and sixth in strikeouts. According to the press release issued by Gettysburg College, he was second in the nation in WHIP (0.77) and third in hits allowed per nine innings (4.88), as of the latest NCAA Division III statistical report.
Gettysburg went on to lose to Haverford College in the conference championship.
