The Ridgefield Planning and Zoning Commission may close its hearing and open discussion among its members about the proposal of the Society of St. Pius X to build a small school on its property on Tackora Trail.
The commission will take up the issue when it meets Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall Annex on Prospect Street.
The society now teaches student in the building it owns on Tackora Trail, which includes a small chapel. It wants to add a 7,400 square for building, to be called the Padre Pio School to the campus there. The commission would have to alter the society’s special permit to allow the construction.
The society is a deeply conservative Roman Catholic organizations, whose leaders have been excommunicated for their views. It has rejected the church reforms of the past 40 years and its priests conduct masses in Latin.
