The northern Fairfield County chapter of Home Instead Senior Care is offering free home safety checks for area seniors and their families.
Nearly 20 million seniors over age 65 suffer injuries in the home that require emergency treatment, and about half of those could be avoided, the organization states on its website.
With help, seniors can modify their homes to avoid accidents and prevent injuries. Caretakers are also provided assistance in doing safety checks for their parents homes to be certain their environment is safe and comfortable, the website states.
Home Instead Senior Care officials said annual safety checks can pinpoint potential dangers, and often the fixes are simple and not expensive yet make a real difference in maintaining a senior’s home independence.
