The father of a 15-month-old child who died Monday left the toddler in his car while at work, Ridgefield police reported in a press release Wednesday.
“It was determined that the father parked his vehicle at his place of employment in Ridgefield with his son inside,” the release stated.
The department received no 9-1-1 calls and were first notified by the staff at Danbury Hospital shortly after 6 p.m. Monday. Temperatures approached 90 degrees Monday, and police said the child was left in a car for an “extended period of time.”
Capt. Jeff Kreitz said the department is working with the State Police Western District Crime Unit and the State Attorney Office.
The cause of death is still pending and no charges have been filed.
Capt. Kreitz reiterated Wednesday that Tuesday afternoon’s address to the media on the lawn of the police station was not a “press conference.”
“This is still an active investigation, so we will release more information when it becomes available,” Kreitz said Wednesday.
