DANBURY — Jury deliberations will resume this morning in the Superior Court manslaughter trial of Robert Bell.
The 64-year-old New Fairfield resident is charged in the fatal shooting of his wife, Svetlana, at their home last December.
Bell, who testified in his own defense during the trial, told the jury that his wife of more than 20 years, was coming at him waving a 6-inch boning knife, and he fired his handgun four times in self-defense.
Prosecutor Sharmese Hodge contends, however, that although Bell was in extreme emotional distress, the shooting was deliberate, and that Bell had calmed his wife when she did the same thing earlier in the evening.
The six-person jury has deliberated for one full day and part of another since getting the case on Nov. 22. The trial has been in recess since last Tuesday, due in part to the Thanksgiving holiday.
