A Meriden man was arrested at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) on Friday afternoon.
Mauricio Perez, 38, was charged with using other people’s Social Security numbers to illegally collect more than $68,000 in Unemployment Compensation, said police.
Perez was hired by a independent flooring contractor to work at WCSU. When he was arrested he was working in the new visual arts building on campus.
The Division of Criminal Justice requested the assistance with Perez’s arrest. Three officers of the WCSU police helped with the arrest and transported him to the station to be processed.
Perez is being held on a $20,000 bond and is being arraigned at the New Britain Superior Court. He is facing up to 20 years in prison and up to $15,000 in fines.
