The New Milford Police Department received a $20,200 federal grant for a speed enforcement program.
The Department of Transportation recently approved the “FY 2014 High Risk Rural Roads – Speed Enforcement Program.” The federal funds allocate $16,400 to enforcement and $3,800 for equipment.
New Milford police will be conducting a “stepped up” enforcement campaign, police said. It is hoped that the campaign will reduce the number of avoidable motor vehicle accidents by 15 percent.
The campaign will start as soon as August of this year. Officers will be patrolling 235 miles of local and state roads.
They will be focusing on speed enforcement of rural roads within the town, police said.
