U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty, D-5th District, stepped in to help a Brookfield woman who faced possibie termination from her job as a Veteran’s Hospital nurse pending her efforts to obtain citizenship.
Prem Babu, a permanent resident and nurse for six years at the West Haven VA Hospital, received a letter of termination to go into effect on Friday because of her citizenship status. Babu was awaiting a previously scheduled interview date with the United States Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) to become a citizen in September.
Fearing the worst, Babu contacted Esty’s office to help save her job. Esty contacted the federal immigration office on her behalf and was able to obtain an earlier interview date. Babu not only obtained her citizenship, but retained her job.
“I contacted Congresswoman Esty, and she took care of the entire situation solving my problem. I ended up getting my citizenship a week before my termination. I am so pleased and appreciated the help when all other doors seemed shut.”- Ms. Prem Babu, Brookfield.
Residents of Connecticut’s 5th District who need assistance with any issues with federal agencies, including with USCIS, are encouraged to reach out to Rep. Esty’s office at 860-223-8412.
