Route 58 will be closed for a week as the bridge over Putnam Brook in Bethel will be removed and replaced.
During construction Route 58 between Hoyts Hill Road and Sara’s Way will be closed starting Friday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. through Tuesday, Sept. 23.
Drivers will be detoured from Milwaukee Avenue onto Glassy Plain Road/Redding Road to Hill Road/Lonetown Road and back onto Putnam Park Road, according to the Department of Transportation. Detour signs will be posted to direct drivers.
According to the DOT, the work includes the removal of stone masonry culvert, installation of a precast concrete box culvert and wing walls, along with new drainage and pavement.
The project was given to Waters Construction Company from Bridgeport. It will a cost $ 772,766 to remove and replace the bridge.
