The 14-year-old boy who struck a truck while riding his bike Wednesday night is being treated for serious injuries, police said.
The collision took place on Coal Pit Hill Road and Harrison Street. Eloi Penha, of Danbury, was driving a 2004 GMC pickup, when a boy biking on Harrison could not stop in time and rode into the side of the truck, police said.
Police say he did sustain head injuries and was transferred from Danbury ER to Yale New Haven Hospital. His name is being with held due to his age.
Witnesses said the boy appeared to be responsive and was bleeding from the neck and mouth.
Penha said he saw the boy speeding down Harrison Street and swung his truck into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting the boy head on.
“I knew he wasn’t going to stop,” said Penha.
Police are investigating the accident.
