The Sandy Hook Permanent Memorial Commission is seeking feedback and involvement of community members as they seek to determine how to proceed with a decision about how to best honor the lives of the 26 children and educators killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012.

As a means to keep the community informed on the process, including those who have expressed interest in creating a sculpture or some other permanent memorial tribute, the commission has created a website so that people can follow the commission’s activities and be informed of their process as it evolves.

The new website is: SandyHookPermanentMemorial.com.

“The website will allow the community to keep an eye on our commission’s progress and be able to access public documents quickly and efficiently. Over the past few weeks, we have worked closely with web designers at Virtual Town Hall to get the site live in a timely fashion and are appreciative of their efforts,’’ said Commission Chairman Kyle Lyddy. “Within the next few months, the full community will have an opportunity to be part of the process that our team has organized, a process that continues to evolve. In the near future, our website will allow community members to easily understand when and how they can participate.”

The website currently includes minutes of commission meetings, articles about the 12-member commission and links to social media accounts: Facebook.com/SandyHookPermanentMemorial and Twitter at @SHPermMemorial

The commission’s charge from the Board of Selectmen is to make recommendation about whether or not to create a permanent memorial to honor the lives of the 26 lives lost on 12/14 at Sandy Hook Elementary, and if so, what the nature of such a memorial might be, its ideal location and the cost to complete it.
