Update: 8:50 p.m.
State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection officials confirmed Wednesday night that a 60-year-old New Fairfield man was pronounced dead at the scene of a boat slip on Candlewood Lake.
DEEP Spokesman Dennis Schain said the man was pronounced dead at about 3 p.m. after his body was found in floating in water off a boat slip at the Hollywyle Park.
The man who was not identified pending notification of family was apparently working on a 14-foot sailboat when he somehow slipped into the water. A friend spotted the boat adrift and the man in the water, and called for emergency help, Schain said. State troopers responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
The investigation was then turned over to the DEEP’s Environmental Conservation police.
