Tyler Santoro, who led police on a dangerous car chase through Litchfield County earlier this month has been arrested by State Police.

Santoro, 31, has been in custody since Sept.1 on unrelated charges. On Thursday, Sept. 25 he was charged with brandishing a facsimile firearm, engaging an officer in a pursuit, interfering with an officer, criminal mischief, larceny, weapons in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless driving.

He is being held on a $350,000 bond and is due in Bantam Superior Court.

Santoro was a suspect in a domestic dispute, when he stole a neighbor’s Chevrolet Blazer with a handgun inside and fled from his home on Old Waterbury Road in Southbury.

After a chase through Waterbury, Bethlehem and Woodbury, he was stopped when he ran into a tree at Wykeham Road at the Bell Hill intersection, police said.

He backed up and tried to ram the two police cars, then displayed a gun and ignored police orders to disarm.

When both officers shot at him, Santoro put a knife to his throat and cut himself, police said. The trooper then used a Taser to disable and disarm him.

Santoro was taken to Waterbury Hospital, where he was being treated for what were described as nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.
