CANNONDALE — A Metro-North Danbury line train from Grand Central Station was stopped in Cannondale at about 6:40 p.m. Monday when engineers spotted an engine fire. About 150 passengers were evacuated from the train. The passengers were never in danger as the fire was contained in the engine, according to MTA Metro-North Railroad spokesman Salvatore Arena.
Another train was brought in within the hour and 15 passengers boarded as most passengers had found rides home with family members or friends, Arena said.
The cause of the engine fire is under investigation. By 9 p.m. Monday service was back to normal on the Danbury line, Arena said.
