Flanders Nature Center, 5 Church Hill Road in Woodbury, will welcome Lily Lewis for a talk and walk focusing on mosses and other bryophytes at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11. Bryophytes, thought small, can have a big impact on our understanding of the natural world. Lewis, a Ph.D. candidate in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology program at the University of Connecticut, will explain how and why that is.
After Lewis’s brief talk, the group will hit Flanders trails in search of mosses and bryophytes. Hand lenses and literature will be available for the workshop, and notebooks are recommended for taking drawings and notes.
The program fee is $5 for members, $8 for non-members.
Participants should meet at the Flanders Sugar House on Church Hill Road, whic is a quarter mile from the corner of Flanders and Church Hill Roads in Woodbury. It is across the street from the red Flanders Trail House and has ample parking in front.
