RIDGEFIELD — Orange will be the color of the day Sunday as 80 football players from Ridgefield High School take part in the 8th Annual Safe Walk at Danbury Fair Mall.

The walk is held by the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury Sunday starting at 8:30 a.m. and this year the entire football team from Ridgefield High is joining in — varsity, jr. varsity, and freshmen players.

The teens will be walking with their moms with the boys wearing their orange jerseys and each mom wearing her son’s white jersey with corresponding team number.

“We’ve teamed up with ‘Strength In Numbers,’ the team from Fairfield County Bank,” said RHS athletic director Kevin Callahan. “Given what’s happening in the big picture regarding the NFL, I felt the time was right to bring this awareness to my kids.”

Individual walkers are invited to take part in the Safe Walk Sunday. 400 walkers are anticipated. Sign up in advance at www.wcodg.org and visit the ‘walk’ page. Donation is $25/individual; $15/student.
