A brand new, $2,800, traffic data collector that Brookfield police installed a week ago, has been destroyed by vandals.
The data collector was put on top of a tree along Cove Road. The device was intended to collect speeds along Cove Road due to a number of complaints from residents of speeding cars.
Less than a week later the data collector was found destroyed on the ground. The device was purchased through a rural speeding grant. It was worth $2,800, police say the department can not afford a replacement and this will effect their ability to monitor traffic complaints.
The data collector was mounted eight feet high using straps and a lock, police said. The lock was cut off by a bolt cutter.
Brookfield police are asking for anyone with information to call Corporal Kevin Brooks at (203) 775-2575.
