A fire at a home on Haddy Lane caused flames three feet high to burst out of the chimney early Sunday night.

“It was like a blow torch,” Danbury Fire Department dispatch said.

Before 6:00 p.m. Danbury fire responded to reports that the home was filling with smoke. When firefighters arrived they saw flames shooting out of the chimney, dispatch said.

It took two hours for firefighters to put the flames out.

The fire was caused when the owners lite a fire in a chimney that had not been recently cleaned, dispatch said. A build up of creosote in the chimney was what started the tall flames and smoke.

Luckily the structure of the house was not involved in the fire and there were no injuries.
