Like bikes? Want to help kids get into bicycle riding? Can you clean, overhaul and/or tune up a bike?

Volunteers are welcome for the Wheels-For-Kids workshop at CSG R&D shop, 17 Trowbridge Drive in Bethel, Friday, Dec. 13, beginning at 4 p.m.

Volunteers are welcome to help, jump in where they want to and where their skills suit. Bring basic bike tools, and a portable work stand if you have one.  There will be refreshments.

What is Wheels – For – Kids?

Danbury Youth Services, In. (DYS) together with Cannodale/CSG presents its Wheels-for-Kids project.  This initiative has grown roots in the community, connecting volunteers with not only needy client families, but with community organizations. Those include the Boy Scouts of America (Bethel and Ridgefield), Rotary (Newtown ), NEMBA, National Charities League (Redding, ), and with the local bicycle shops and enthusiasts. This year, thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Greater Danbury, each bike will be delivered with a helmet.

Have a bicycle to donate?

They have a good collection already, but are happy to accept bikes for kids 5 – 10 years old. This means 12” – 20” wheel bikes, e.g. BMX bikes. The greatest need is for boys 20” BMX style bikes in any reasonable condition. 24” or 26” wheel mountain bikes suitable for older, taller kids are also welcome. Feel free to drop off any time behind the CSG R&D shop (across the street from the former CSG headquarters) at 17 Trowbridge Drive in Bethel CT, or bring with you Friday.

Where do the bicycles end up?

Bicycles are given to needy families at the Dec. 21 Santa’s Workshop at 44 Spring St. in Danbury.
