A 23-year-old Bethel mother has been identified as the pedestrian struck and killed Saturday by a hit-and-run driver.
Rachel Sack was pronounced dead at Danbury Hospital Saturday morning after being hit by a dark-colored SUV while crossing the road in the area of South Street and Great Pasture Road, police said.
Sack has been described as a woman full of love and adventure by friends and family. Sack had 3-month-old son, Jackson, and was in the process of buying her first home.
“I’ve been friends with her for 23 years, we were born and raised together,” Stephanie Ewud said. “She has always been a kind compassionate human being. She was a magnificent person.”
Sack worked at Danbury Regional Hospice, Ewud said. She always followed her dreams, going sky diving, swimming with dolphins and snorkeling in the Caribbean.
Ewud remembers Sack as full of compassion. When Ewud’s father died four years ago, Sack did not leave her side and got her through the rough times, she said. Sack also stayed in the hospital with Ewud every night after she had surgery, setting an alarm every 20 minutes to feed her.
“Rachel has been my personal saving grace, she was a loving mother sister and daughter,” Ewud said. “Ever since Jackson was born, she has been obsessed and in love with her child.”
Sack is survived by her parents, her brother, Andrew, sister, Elizabeth, boyfriend,
Jason Dudow and son, Jackson. Danbury Regional Hospice is setting up a scholarship in Sack’s name as well creating a fund for Jackson.
“What is there to say about someone who is so unexplainable,” Ewud said. “She was your perfect girl.”
