A Brookfield man was charged with criminal mischief after setting of the sprinkler system in the Danbury Police Department Monday night.
Ryan Berry, 21, was arrested early Monday night after a witness saw him hit a mailbox with his car and drive off in the area of Great Plain Road, police said.
Danbury police officers pulled Berry over and smelled alcohol in the car, after failing a field sobriety test he was charged with evading responsibility, driving while intoxicated and failure to drive right, police said.
Later in the night, while Berry was in his cell block, he manage to tamper with the sprinkler system causing it to activate, police said.
The activation caused a lot of damage, police said. Cleaning crews had to come and clean the black oily substance that comes out with the water and the Danbury Fire Department had to drain the cell block.
Berry was then additionally charged with first degree criminal mischief. He was held on a $2,500 bond.
