The Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department was sent to Deborah Ann’s Sweet Shop Tuesday night for reports of smoke and flames in the building.
Around 8:30 p.m. a call from an employee of the sweet shop on Main Street, told dispatch that flames and smoke were coming from the wall near the dishwasher, said Ridgefield Fire Chief, Kevin Tappe.
When firefighters arrived they realized it was an electrical fire and started checking to make sure the fire didn’t spread to other parts of the building, Tappe said.
“We were worried because it is an old building and it has had a couple of renovations in the past,” Tappe said. “So we caused a little damage checking that it hadn’t spread.”
The fire was extinguished quickly, but Tappe said it was lucky that the store hadn’t closed for the night. Tappe said that if the employee hadn’t called the fire could have spread and caused more damage.
