New Milford area Saturday night snow and sleet before 3 a.m. then freezing rain. Temperatures to rise to around 29 degrees by 4 a.m. Sunday, freezing rain and sleet likely before noon, according to the National Weather Service.
Connecticut State Police are advising motorists to use caution Saturday as many highways will become slippery. As the storm intensifies, State Police recommend staying off the roads to prevent major traffic issues.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy asked all residents to use caution Saturday and to limit travel at the height of the storm, anticipated to begin a 8 p.m. Saturday and continue to Sunday morning.
If it is necessary to go out during this storm, provide your route of travel details to a family member or friend, police said. Motorists are encouraged to check media reports prior to travel to get the latest updates on road conditions and possible road closures.
As of 10:35 a.m. Saturday, greater Danbury area police departments and State Police were reporting no road closures and only minor accidents occurring.
Motorists should have fully-charged cell phone, bottle of water, nourishment bars or other non-perishable food, a shovel, flares and blankets in case of emergency, police said. Headlights on all vehicles should be turned on during the storm.
