A Danbury High School student is collecting jeans this week to donate to homeless teens as part of the nation’s biggest jeans drive.
The national campaign, “Teens for Jeans,” is run by about 10,000 schools and is sponsored by DoSomething.org and Aeropostale.
Steffany Gomes, a senior, has placed bins at the high school, Danbury Library, Escape To the Arts and at A Common Ground dance school. The collected items will be donated to homeless shelters and homeless teens in the area.
The campaign also is a competition and the schools with the most donations — one of each level, including elementary, middle, high and a college — each will win $50,000, she said.
Gomes said a pair of jeans is the most requested clothing item among the country’s homeless youth.
All jeans sizes and colors are welcome, she said. The last day to donate is Saturday.
