The Brookfield and Bethel chambers of commerce will host a debate this week with the candidates running for the General Assembly’s 107th district.

Democrat Howard Lasser and Republican Stephen Harding Jr. will meet the public at 7 p.m. Thursday at Whisconier Middle School, 17 West Whisconier Road.

The 107th district, which includes Brookfield and parts of Bethel and Danbury, was left vacant last month when longtime representative David Scribner accepted a position on the state Liquor Control Commission just days after he began his ninth term. A special election for the seat will be held on Feb. 24.

Lasser is a former Brookfield selectman and Harding is one of newest members of the Brookfield Board of Education.

Scott Benjamin, a professor at West Connecticut State University in Danbury, will moderate the debate.
