BETHEL – Superintendent of Schools Christine Carver issued an update Saturday afternoon about the investigation into “inappropriate activities with minor children” by a former elementary school employee.
Carver said it’s not clear whether the Frank A. Berry School staff member, who resigned Thursday after being put on administrative leave, did anything inappropriate at the school.
“To date, the authorities have not shared any information with the district that indicates that any misconduct occurred on school grounds,” she wrote.
Officials have not named the former employee because the person has not been charged with a crime. Carver said she also was not authorized to disclose the individual’s gender or job at the elementary school, since the investigation is pending.
Carver said state and local authorities, including the Department of Children and Families, are investigating the case.
“The district will continue to cooperate with the authorities with respect to the investigation, including the release
of information, so as to avoid any compromise to the integrity of the investigation,” she said Saturday. “We understand and respect that parents would like to get as much information as possible, and we will work with
the investigating agencies to release information as appropriate to the investigatory process.”
The district also believes the former employee sent information about the alleged activities to certain members of the school community, as well as others with no affiliation with the district.
