Attorney David Gronbach may be the Democrat’s choice for mayor in 2015

NEW MILFORD — Democrats in New Milford have vowed to have a mayoral candidate in the November 2015 race to challenge six-term Republican mayor Pat Murphy.

Murphy announced last week that she is seeking a seventh term and after 12 years of unsuccessful campaigns against her, the Democratic Town Committee is ready for another go.

According to sources in the DTC, New Milford attorney David Gronbach, 38, has been before a DTC search committee saying he was seriously interested in being the party’s candidate for the mayor’s seat.

“David Gronbach is a prominent and well-respected resident of New Milford and would make an excellent choice for any elected office,” said Andy Grossman, DTC chairman. “We expect to have an announcement about a (supported) mayoral candidate in the coming weeks.”

Gronbach has declined comment on having an interest in the mayor’s position. Still, he and Grossman and DTC vice chairman Peter Mullen attended the first 2015-16 joint budget meeting Monday held by the Town Council and Board of Finance.

“There is a time line for these things and everybody is trying to stick to it,” Gronbach said Tuesday. “The DTC is closely involved in this.”
