Police said an intoxicated Danbury man backed his car against a police cruiser Monday and tried to flee.
Officers were helping a driver with a disabled vehicle at about 1 a.m. when Sinvaldo Gomes De Oliviera, 52, drove “erratically” past them, according to police.
One of the officers followed De Oliviera until he stopped on Maple Avenue, but the suspect put his vehicle into reverse and struck the officer’s patrol car, police said. De Oliviera then attempted to flee by turning on Patch Street, where he ended up striking a snow bank, according to the report.
De Oliviera was finally taken into custody and he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, unsafe backing, traveling the wrong way on a one-way street, disobeying the signal of an officer, evading responsibility and driving without a license.
He posted $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court March 6.
