NEW MILFORD — Firefighters from Water Witch Hose Co. No. 2 responded to a structure fire Wednesday about 11:55 a.m. at 66 Grove Street to find the house already seriously damaged.
Fire Chief James Ferlow said the call came in as “heavy smoke coming from the eves.” The fire was knocked out within 20 minutes, Ferlow said. However the damage to the structure was serious.
The circa 1900, two-story 2,000-square-foot house is listed on Vision Appraisal as being owned by David Rojas. The Red Cross assisted the family of two adults and five children with temporary housing and money for food and warm winter clothing, according to Paul Shipman, Red Cross coordinator.
Northville, Gaylordsville and Brookfield volunteer fire departments provided mutual aid.
