,Here’s US Sen.. Richard Blumenthal’s statement on the data breach at Target stores, which may have left the credit and debit card account information of 40 million of its customers vulnerable to hackers and thieves.
”This major data breach leaves the personal and financial information of millions of Target customers vulnerable to hackers and thieves at the very height of the holiday season. When a data breach occurs, customers must be notified immediately about whether and how their personal and financial information has been compromised. I am strongly concerned that the store failed to act as quickly as it should have. Notification should be immediate and comprehensive. Target also should provide financial data security services, including free access to credit reporting and monitoring services – fully funded by the company – as well as sufficient insurance to protect affected consumers from any possible harm from identity theft.”
