Alexandra Ambrosio of Brewster, a junior at the Wooster School in Danbury, organized the school’s first Catwalk for a Cure, a fashion fundraiser for the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center in Fairfield, helping to raise $9,000. The event was held last month. and the money will be used to provide breast care services, including mammograms, to women in need.
The show was the idea of Ambrosio and Hallie Fuchs of Fairfield, who wanted to raise awareness of breast cancer in their community. They worked for months to organize the event with a committee of 30 fellow students.
Several local businesses contributed to making the evening a success. Students modeled clothing from Wishlist, Brooks Brothers, Jack Wills, Wave and Splash of Pink of Westport, and J. McLaughlin of Southport.
“The kids really went all out,” said Robin Righter, development coordinator at the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center. “We are so lucky to have committed young women and men working on our behalf.”
