Firefighters responded Sunday night to Ridgefield High after a burnt filter in the school’s heating unit filled the main lobby with smoke, said Ridgefield assistant fire chief Jerry Myers.
Crews responded to the automatic alarms in the school and were on the scene for just under two hours.
The school is closed this week for spring break.
The system is designed to keep dust out with a vacuum, but it instead pulled the filter onto the electric heater, causing it to burn. The smoke entered the building through heat-curtain ducts above the main entrance.
