Danbury gas station explosion victim in critical conditon

UPDATE — The Danbury man burned in an explosion at a Tamarack Avenue gas station Friday morning is in critical condition.

A spokesperson with Bridgeport Hospital confirmed that the 60-year-old Danbury man is in critical condition. His name has not been released.

DANBURY — An explosion at a Tamarack Avenue gas station burned a man pumping gas early Friday morning.

The 60-year-old city resident suffered burns “over most of his body,” police said.

The “explosion,” as police described the incident, occurred at about 6:23 a.m. while the man was pumping gas into his vehicle at Wheels Gas Station, 27 Tamarack Ave.

A witness told the News-Times the man’s vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The Danbury Fire Department responded to the blaze and the victim was transported to Danbury Hospital, police said. He was later transported to the Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital, police said.

City police asked that anyone who witnessed the incident call the Danbury Police Detective Bureau at 203-797-4662.
