DANBURY — Two young women were arrested Wednesday after police said they tried to steal merchandise from Walmart, 67 Newtown Road.

Officers were called to the store at about 4 p.m. for two shoplifters in custody. Walmart security had detained the two suspects after seeing them remove items from the shelves, hide them and exit the store without paying for them, according to the report.

Elizabeth Blackman, 19, of Woodbury, was charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Beatrice Oneil, 18, of Chester, was only charged with conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

They were released at the scene on a promise to appear May 4 in Superior Court in Danbury.
