Kayla Mooney left, leaves Danbury Superior Court with her supporters. Mooney, a Danbury High School teacher, is charged in the sexual assault of her 17-year-old student.
DANBURY – A 24-year-old science teacher accused of giving a 17-year-old male student vodka and having sex with him twice appeared briefly in Danbury Superior Court Monday before her case was continued.
First-year teacher Kayla Mooney has been on administrative leave from Danbury High School since February after an ex-girlfriend of the youth complained to administrators that the teacher had sex with her ex-boyfriend.
Mooney was supposed to be arraigned in Court on Monday on a felony charge of second-degree sexual assault and providing alcohol to a minor, a misdemeanor.
Instead, her attorney told the judge he had requested evidence from prosecutors that he had not yet seen and asked for her arraignment to be postponed for a month.
Mooney did not speak during the brief appearance before the judge.
She did not enter a plea.
She left the courtroom in sunglasses and a black blazer with her attorney and supporters, declining to comment on her case.
