DANBURY – Police said an unlicensed drunken driver fell asleep while his car was still running on a roadway early Monday morning.

Officers were called to the corner of Balmforth Avenue and Garamela Boulevard at about 1 a.m. for a report of a suspicious car, police said.

While en route to the area, they learned the red car was stopped in the middle of the roadway and the driver was passed out behind the wheel, according to the report.

The caller told police that the car was still running and that he opened it to shift it to park. The caller also checked to see if the driver, Danbury resident Milton Boni, was breathing, which he was, police said.

Boni, 22, of Rowan Street, was still unresponsive when officers arrived, so they woke him up, according to the report. After determining he may be intoxicated, police conducted field sobriety tests, which he failed, police said.

Boni was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license.

He posted $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 8.
